Week of the Arachnid

How's this for a house pet. This tarantula was in Deric's house last Monday night. I'm beginning to re-think the plans to go and get him when his mission is completed. I really don't do bugs and this is a really major one.

This photo is almost as good as the ones we took in Africa. I guess I will just look at this as part of the wildlife in Honduras. It's about as ugly as the warthogs and the furry legs remind me of a lion's mane.

Okay, this trying to justify the creature isn't quite working. It's still scary.

This little character was on the wall in Deric's house on Friday night. That's his thumbnail next to it. This one isn't as scary as the tarantula, but I'm guessing it could probably do just about the same amount of damage.

Honduras

Deric sent us some pictures through e-mail while we were in Africa. Here they are.

This photo was taken at the Mission Office in San Pedro Sula. Elder Orozco was getting ready to go home. The Elders traded ties before he left. It looks like Deric is sporting a new hair cut. I can't decide if I like it or not. His forehead looks nearly as big as my dad's. HAHA!!

The roads in Pineda are not paved, so this is what happens when it rains. The boot on the right has already been cleaned. It's a good thing the boots are waterproof!!!

African Accommodations

These are pictures of our accommodations during our safari in Kenya. We had to stay in a tent at the camp. It was a decent size and it wasn't too bad.

The outside of the tent...the porch was great to sit and read or just watch the river go by.

Yes, that is a four poster bed and wood floors inside the tent. The bathroom was tiled. We had hot and cold running water and a flushing toilet. Totally 4-star!!!

Mildred Brunker Larkin

Grandma Larkin's funeral on Saturday, November 28, 2009, was wonderful celebration. Grandma has told us since Deric was born that she was ready to go on to the next life. Every reunion or family gathering has been her last one for nearly 20 years.

We are so happy that she is finally reunited with Grandpa Conrad and her daughter, Ruth. We will miss Grandma because we love her, but we know she is in a better place.

Our Family

Deric is attending CSN and UNLV for the Spring, 2013 semester. He will be taking classes towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In May, he will graduate from CSN with an Associate Degree in Spanish. He works as a customer service representative for the City of Las Vegas at the Stupak Community Center. His callings in the church include Service Committee Co-Chair, Institute Student Council Member, Indexing Committee Member and Sacrament Meeting Chorister in the singles ward. He is also the 11-year-old scout leader in our home ward.

Felycia is a college graduate!!!! She finished her degree on December 7, 2012. She is now looking to do some substitute teaching for the Spring semester. She enjoyed her student teaching with a great mentor teacher. She has found housing with two girls from her ward. She loves living in St. George and being involved in the YSA program. She is on the Temple and Family History Council and is a Relief Society teacher.

Conrad is the bishop in our ward. That keeps him plenty busy. He is still at the City of North Las Vegas in the computer department. I keep telling him that he needs to get some hobbies that have nothing to do with work or church. He needs something to do in what little down time he has.

I am a Family History Consultant in our ward. I love my calling. I'm not having much luck with my own line, but I'm learning the skills to help others find their ancestors. I stay busy with my books, crafts, and work. I love my job because I have so much fun there.
